I've the more recent fantasy heartbreaker Arianrhod to review later on, so it should be interesting to see how the concept has changed over the years with the development of anime & computer rpgs away from D&D and traditional cultural lenses.

Excuse the jargon, but I'm in the middle of my studies...Tedankhamenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00181643018957592969noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3541600234261335250.post-16840957696451841972013-08-26T20:21:07.821-07:002013-08-26T20:21:07.821-07:00I'm no cultural scholar, but maybe the notion ...I'm no cultural scholar, but maybe the notion that legitimate sword swingers should be employed by a daimyo is an influence? This may be one reason why Parn (the anime protagonist) has to become a "knight" before his troop goes to the Isle of bad guys. I'm assuming you've seen the 13 ep OVAs, which really brought the setting and NPCs to life.Lee Bhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06698873084592329937noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3541600234261335250.post-76391217999406706472013-08-26T18:15:45.636-07:002013-08-26T18:15:45.636-07:00Thanks for the insight, Lee. That means adventurer groups like in The Black Company or Berserk are the norm, which would make the scenario a necessary way into these societies. Interesting.

I suppose manga art style has dominated north america by now. I remember when I lived back in Canada 6-7 years ago, everyone was reading Naruto and the kids in the school I taught at were using Japanese onomatopoeia. Made me laugh.Tedankhamenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00181643018957592969noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3541600234261335250.post-8631308889093552792013-08-26T14:15:02.015-07:002013-08-26T14:15:02.015-07:00I don't have any of the game books, but I do h...I don't have any of the game books, but I do have the prequel manga, the Mizuno/Group SNE Lodoss Island World Guide, and art from my old subscription to Newtype magazine. The super-deform comic art shouldn't throw people off in this day. Manga styles are even being brought into US comics and video games. The part about starting with a guild makes sense to me. Lodoss has feudal armies at odds with each other, and adventuring groups without allegiances could have trouble. In the videos, the main characters get tossed in jail and have to win favor amongst the good guys to continue their quests.Lee Bhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06698873084592329937noreply@blogger.com
